I had the privilege of loading this Super Nice IHC 403 Hydro drive combine today. I will deliver it to it's new home in eastern Ks. tomorrow. It is field ready and the new owner will use it. This one has a corn head, the second one he bought has a 15ft. straight head. Both turned over a few times and came to life. Somewhat cold blooded but after they warmed up they purred right along. He said the 93 wasn't sold, so I made the call. Sold a little earlier so I missed out. Seems to be a decent machine. Rained the whole time we were loading.

Must be a aftermarket cab as Dad's 403 looked different in that area. His 403 was the first self propelled combine in the family. We both had pto 140s before that. I bought a 1160 Case soon afterward.

There are two 403 hydros (with duals!) sitting idle in a shed about 15 miles from me, and I'm sure the guy would sell (he was begging me to buy them).

There are 3 combines here, all Hydros. I am guessing it had to do with the dealer and the area. Corn & bean country, lot of small odd shaped feilds in the river bottom.
The cabs are Full Vision made in Newton Ks. which is close by.

I ran a 403 here for 3 years after a the 141, went to a 105 JD then 6600 and 7700's. Mine had a cab and variable. Not a bad combine at all, just needed something bigger....James

You needed a 503 to compete with the 105 and 6600. I think the 03 series were the best conventionals IH ever made. That's not just me saying it but the old red guys around here that started with the 125s and worked their way up to the Axial Flows. I have a 151 and the 403 is just a 151 with more hp, bigger grain tank, and a slightly longer separator . Kinda of the same difference between a 6600 and 6620.

I'm glad to see that those combines went to good homes....They had been on craigslist for a long time...Many years ago there were a couple of 403 Hydros in my area..

We used to run a pair of hydro 403's with 329WN corn heads, back in the 80's. One diesel, one gas. Diesel was early, with flat seperator belt, gas was later style, and even had A/C!
One of the best combines ever built, IMHO.
Glad they are going to a good home!
