JD 4400 drive belts

Need to replace the propulsion belts on my 4400. Can't figure out just how to get the hydraulic pump off the shaft so I can get the belt on. I replaced the other belts under the seat last year, but I just snaked them around the pump without much trouble. This belt is a right smart bigger and I'm thinking that I wont be able to do it the same way! Anybody that has removed that pump or changed the belt another way I'd sure appreciate your help.

The pump is threaded on with regular right hand threads. The pump shaft has two flat spots machined into it to get a wrench on. I put a big crescent wrench on the large nut just to the right of where the pump threads on and braced it against the cab frame below the seat to hold the engine output shaft from turning, and put another crescent on those two flat spots of the pump shaft. Fit it on as tight as you can. Then I slipped a 3 foot long pipe over the crescent on the pump shaft and leaned down on it (forward and downward towards the floor). That got the pump shaft broke free from the main shaft it is threaded in to, and I was able to use a 5/8" wrench to unscrew the pump the rest of the way. I used some anti-seize compound on the threads going back together. Clear as mud I'm sure but I hope this helps!

There is a special tool that will fit over the flats of the pump shaft and is designed to be struck by a hammer to break the threaded end of the pump shaft away from the powershaft. The crescent wrench method will work but it can take a good amount of force to break free as the shaft is a tapered fit.
Or you can leave the pump in place and remove the hoses to let the belts off/on.
