john deere 45 and popcorn

I would think the combine itself would handle it just fine. The limiting factor would be how close the deck plates (or bars, depending on the head) could be adjusted on the corn head itself so as not to let ears through to the snapping rolls. Mike
 
I'm told you really want to handle popcorn gently, so my only concern with a 45 would be that I have the right sprockets to really get it slowed down.

I have a friend who does about 40 acres of popcorn. He picks his with a corn picker, cribs it, and shells it when it is dry. Claims he gets less damage that way.
