Flex bean head. Was wondering if the 1 1/2 cut sickle cuts better also does it handle crops and if your crop isnt realy clean?

I like them. My first combine had 3" sections and then went to White Quik-Cut and liked it much better. Good enough that I'm still using the 1 1/2" today.

I guess I'm going to have to disagree with the other posters.

Check the prices of the 1020 IH heads, they ask a lot more when they have the 3" cut.....it's usually mentioned when they are 3".

I've had both and you couldn't give me the 1 1/2" cut, they push the crop ahead.

If you have any grass (Foxtail) they are a disaster.

The 1.5 doesn't shatter beans near as bad. I think they do a great job of cutting. We have never had trouble cutting with them the only reason guys round here run a 3" is if they are no till because the 3" will cut the standing stalks. We do tillage tho and we will never have a 3" sickle again

Back when we ran two 1020 heads one was 3" and one was 1 1/2". Both heads cut pretty much the same but the 1 1/2" head would leave little skips where it pushed a corn stalk for a short distance. After a few years of this the 1 1/2" head was converted back to 3".

Based upon the responses I have seen and from my own recollection, I remember when White came out with what was then referred to as their Quik Cut system. It seemed to have some popularity back in the day and worked well. The conditions at the time; we were not dealing with the surface residue we are contending with today. More farmers back then were moldboard plowing their cornstalks and the surface of the fields then had little residue. Reading "fixerupper's" comments jarred my memory from the late 1970's to early 1980's.

a 3" section will cut anything you need to and you can use them in wheat if you need to, we had one head with 1.5 and won't own another, most guys went away from them around here, the reason some thought they were so good is because they were replacing worn out 3" set ups with new 1.5 cutting parts
