I have a friend that just saved an H3 pull type w/Wisconsin V-4 engine. He has everything for it including a reel tha's never been used. The V-4 is free, but he can't get any spark. Any suggestions? (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Always glad to read 'saved from scrapper'. Can you post a picture? The engine more then likely has a magneto. Check to see that the kill button is properly functioning and not shorting itself out. And like Bill said, clean the points and make sure they are opening. (You can remove the oil filter for easier access). If everything looks good, then the coil in the mag is probably the cause.

Thanks for the info, we'll see what develops with it. I'm pretty illiterate when it comes to mags (and posting pictures) so might have to ask for a lot of help on those issues. (My $0.02 worth-jal-SD)

As mentioned on the mag, check the points and kill switch. If that doesn't work, you may need to take the coil out and clean the ground on the coil itself; I fixed a bad mag on a Wisconsin because moisture had rusted/corroded the ground on the coil and caused it to fail. It required disassembly and cleaning but was relatively minor. The big issue is that an ohmmeter test would show a failure when the problem was in the ground and not actually the coil.

Hope this helps.
