OldSelf Propelled Gleaner Combine Models

Last week a former parts man from an old local Gleaner, Allis dealer stopped by our house. He said that he started working for AC in 1972 and at that time he was selling lots of parts for All Crop Combines, A's, AII's, E's, C's, K's, F's, etc. He and I were talking about the first Gleaner Combines, and we couldn't decide on what all the very early models were.

I know there was A, T, and R, but I found in one book that there was a B (rice combine). I was thinking I also read somewhere that there was a S model combine. Just curious what the Gleaner experts out there knew? What were the earliest SP models and what order did they come out in? Thanks.

The S was a pull type.
The first real self propelled combines were the A and R both introduced in 1951.
The the model B followed in 1953.
The model T was the smallest SP combine and I think it was introduced in 1954?

Dad had a pull type with a 12ft. header powered by a Ford Model C engine (Ford's Industrial version of the Model A engine). It was underpowered for heavy straw windrows. The auger tube was a small diameter that would wrap at the first sign of the evening dew, so that shortened the day when combining. Otherwise it was reliable machine. Dad traded it on a MMG2 that didn't have any more power with the Hercules engine. Then he bought a MM G3 with a MM Z engine that really was a workhorse.

I have a 1957 model A with the flat head Hercules 6 cylinder engine and a 1955 model T with the 172 Ford 4 cylinder engine...I'm hoping to have an early R with the flat head Ford 6 cylinder some time in the future..

1205 you'd better be sending that R gleaner up here as my birthday present next year. Lol. There is a model P-80 , s-6 both pull types. There's a model E pull type, there's the gleaner mounted on a fordson tractor. I'm still looking for an R gleaner myself and a two row cornhead for a 90 all crop combine.
