JD 30 combine

Greetings
I'm new here and i'm looking for somebody that is very familiar with JD 30 Combines on multiple crops. I need some tips on adjusting a few things. Dad started harvesting yesterday with it and we managed to stop up the distributing auger and the tailings elevator... we have it set to about 1200 rpm for wheat, running it behind an equally old JD tractor. I believe you should be able to email me.

Cheers
Andrea

It sounds as though you aren't running enough air on the cleaning shoe. Material is being carried on the top sieve instead of being floated. Check to be sure if the adjustable doors on the fan are open and the windboards are letting the air blow to the front of the top sieve. Mike

we run jd 25 and 30's bak in my hi schooldays,,. my dad could set a combine to run seed directly into a grain drill,. sadly I recall very little about setting the deere 30 combine other than using a pipe wrench to set the cylinder clearance ,.. and maybe we were unplugging ,,. ? That rarely happened . the cylinder speed crank should be mounted in front of the bin , no Wait? I think that crank adjusts the fan speed ?,.the machine should be running to make this adjustment . the deeres done us a good job ,,. Seed Women is correct , a lot of that work back there on the shaker shoe is reasoning and common sense , and trial and error ,,. just remember or mark where it was set originally if you decide to move settings , do one thing , check results, then try another and chek results .watch your fan speed changes closely ,, I am assuming that you are familiar with wheat harvest ,,,. and are not trying to harvest 20 minutes after a shower , LOL or ,if you are totally new and don't have anyone to coach you thru ,, then , you are in deep trouble ,,.. LOl ,. There is a learning curve on all machines ,.another thing that holds true for wheat harvest , especially on a massey 300 is to run the cylinder speed as fast as possible ,, run the shaker shoe fan at 2/3rds . ,, another thing , you mentioned full tailings auger plugging ,,. make sure ALL BEARINGS AND shafts have no resistance and spin like new , one cranky bearing could lok up even though it appears to be in good order. what is the history of the combine ?,,. did it come from someone that messed all the adjustments up because he did not know beans from applebutter , and gave up thinking the combine was impossible to set rite Or ,a old fella like my dad that understood and knew the machine inside out ,,. AND IS HE AVAILABLEto give you pointers ?? Again trial and error is the key ,. and wheather and crop conditions and green weedsin the crop will change everything .. Good Luck

Mike the fan was wide open but you were right i had some quality time with the manual last night and i adjusted the windboards this am ...i'm guessing pulling that lever forward angles it upward and shoving it toward the back of the machine lays it flatter? I wish i could take the whole thing apart so i understood it all better but i understand cleaning grain on clippers and such so that is helping.

You wouldn't have any experience harvesting hulled grains like farro or spelt with one of these would you?

[b:434661b065]It is its a long crank and with our setup it increases the speed 25 rpm per crank [/b:434661b065]

[b:434661b065] Somewhat... we have generally harvested with a newer combine which my brother drove and i walked behind to check the straw and he made adjustments from the computer screen...lol So this animal is a whole other thing![/b:434661b065]

[b:434661b065]I have some coaching but I like to tweak it all and Dad is a run and gun type (because he doesn't have to clean it on the clippers and gravity table)[/b:434661b065]

[b:434661b065]Ha there we go... sealed bearing on the tailings is shot. We ended up opening it up and it would just spit out the light stuff as we went along... worked good in the pinch. I will get another bearing.
