4400 John Deere curtains

The curtains are supposed to deflect the straw and any grain mixed in with it on to the front of the walkers so it gets a full length toss separating any remaining and not get thrown out the back. Mike

I run two curtains on my JD 4420 in soybeans and corn. Like Mike says it brings the crop down immediately to the walkers for a full length separation. Originally I only had one, but thought kernels were flying out of the back. I now think it was a threshing problem and kernels on cobs were dropping into the straw chopper and being further threshed - appearing to be loose/thrown kernels. I left the curtains in and it works just fine. The curtains do slow the flow of materials down, but it still works fine in 185 - 200 bushel corn. It is amazing how deep the material is on the straw walkers when you either do a power shut down or ride on the back and observe while moving. I have two extra curtains I would part with if interested.

Andy r, I would be interested in one of those curtains. Currently only have the back curtain in our 4420, similar to what you used to have. I see from the JD parts there are two different part numbers for the curtains. #AH84216 for the rear curtain and #AH84218 for the front. Is there much difference in them? or will they work interchangeably. Hopefully email is open, Paul.
