JD round baler won't tie

I have a john deere round baler 430 and it quits tying. I've replaced the hydraulic pump twice which worked but does it again. The pump is working. I've bled the line which works then stops again. I've put air pressure in it which works but stops again. It appears when the oil gets hot it will work. I've hand tied more bales than the machine has. I've owned it about ten years and just can't figure it out. I only do about 200 bales a year. Any advice will help

It might be time to throw in the towel and make JD fix it. Tell them you aren't paying until it's right.
Years ago we got a new baler. It was never right. In the end it came down to the service manager
coming out and running the baler for two full days to get the whole experience. It was a disaster.
He promised to get that baler to tie, but forget that - the baler got returned. I have no idea what
poor sap ended up with that baler. We've got a nice enough 435 that hasn't been too much
trouble. Bought it when it was a year old and it ties well as long as the springs aren't broken (on
the same side as the pump). Look it over - you may have a broken spring and not realize it.

the belt has been replaced about three times because it gets hot from running so long and the pump not turning. I actually made a small discovery yesterday. If I open up the string tie arm adjustment to allow more fluid to pass through thus making the string one foot apart it takes off and ties. I have to make it tie about three times in a row to have enough string to hold the bale together. If I adjust it back down where the string is 4 inches apart it stops working altogether. I removed the valve and disassembled it thinking it might have an obstruction or worn o rings. Everything appeared perfect and my thorough cleaning didn't help a bit. I may try replacing the adjustment valve. That's the only thing I've not replaced. One foot spacing is just not near adequate for short grass hay or oats.

I think that if you can make it tie by adjusting it to
where the twine is spaced 1 foot apart but when you
try to make the twine be spaced closer together
your adjusting valve may be your problem.

I have a 530 but have very little trouble with the
tying.

Good luck.
