John Deere 65 combine parts

I have a 65 John Deere combine and I am curious if parts off the 55 would fit the 65? I first off need the clean and return elevator chains, second I need to find a way to make the head back into a straight cut head as in I need to put a reel on it as well as a sickle. Is this possible or am I going to have a heck of a time working with it? My 65 is an early one with a 6 cylinder Hercules engine on it. Thanks in advance!

I have had a 96 and a 106, and now a 105.the elevator chains are a go,and as far as sickle parts drive i would sure think they are the same. Do u have a few old 55 combine around your country, they all got hauled in in this area,Good Luck!

How come you Farmall guys are working on JD combines?? Should find a 140 or 402 IHC machine. Neighbor has a nice 914 that he pulled out of the shed and resides outside now. Would make someone a nice machine.

We had a couple 140's and later a 150. If you forget to take the wrench off of the cyl. shaft you can launch it about 50' into the air. Don't ask me how I know! There was quite a few 65's in the area all but gone now. I know where one might be. Dad always said a 140 would out thresh a 65 and being partial to JI Case and IH machinery I suppose that's how we ended up with them..

There were quite a few 65's sold in our area, until the owners learned that they were really quite wimpy compared to other combines on the market. Dad hired a neighbor with your vintage 65 to help us combine one year. Our chain drive G3 MM combine could do a lot more than that 65. The guy traded off the 65 for a bigger machine.
