How wide of a bean head would you take down the a country road before you would put it a trailer and move it?

I used to move an 18 foot head and neighbor moved a 20 foot head. Not a lot of people and car traffic in this area.

I think it depends on how far you are going and what the terrain looks like. I used to have a 4400 with a 213 head and I always put it on the head wagon if I was going to travel over some blind hills. If I was only going a little way on flatter ground I would just leave the head on. Mike

I have a caseih 1020 that has a 20 foot cutting bar, I move on the combine but only going apx a mile form home each way and I have place I can pull off, I don't think I would want to try a long distance, some people have to mush speed when wanting to pass you.

We have a 20 foot on our 9700 that we drive every where with it on. We also have a 25 ft on our 2188 that we drive with it on except the 2 times we go around town bout 20+ miles. It has field tracker tho so that helps with mail boxes

We move an 918 on a 9400 Jd over hills. I always have my wife out in front on the phone in case somebody is coming I can pull into a drive.

I'll take my 20 foot head down the country roads, actually have a back way path through town as well. Longer distance or heavier traffic I would
not tho. 6-30 harder I'd go anywhere tho.

Neighbor back in ND has 30 (or maybe 32ft) headers that they leave on when moving on some township roads. However, they have to remove and trailer the headers to get between the RR signal posts to cross the RR tracks.

We got a 22 foot head for the 9500 for this reason.
At the time that was the best size for moving down
the country roads and not worrying about signs and
things. The dork BTO has some new MacDon 30
foot draper heads. They move those about five
miles without the carts. There are two bridges. They
spend half a day unbolting all of the signs around
the bridges and then putting them back up. They
don't hire the smartest hands.

Depends on which state you're in too.
Wisconsin has a new law . If the
equipment is over 13' have to have a
permit. Combine heads on trailers. No
duals on tractors or Combines if over
13' without permits.

Here in Kansas we would always take the 24' head down the road on the 7720. The 30' head on the 9600 we only tried it once. Too much trouble. After that first time it always went on the trailer if it was more than a mile or so down the road. That 30' grain head looked awfully big once it got on a road..lol!

I'm sure different states have different rules, but depends on how far you have to go and what the situation is I'm sure. Bob

By the way, the 24 footer was a flex, the 30 footer was a rigid grain head. Regardless, and this is in Central KS where there is a lot of clear space, a 24 footer would be max. Bob
