JD Feeder House Question

I ought to know this, I guess, but we've had an 8820 so long, we've never swapped out headers with anything...

Is there a break between JD combine models & header models that will/won't work together? In other words, would a header that fits a 7700 combine also work on an 7720, 8820, 8820 Titan 2, etc??

Would a 224 & 230 wheat header fit on up to the newest model JD combines??

Thanks for any information,
Howard

A 7700 vintage header will work on something up to say a 9510 provided that the head has had some iron removed to clear the feederhouse reverser on the newer models. Newer than the 10 series, the head will need to be modified to fit the PTO-style drive shafts found on the 50 series and newer. (For that matter, some of the 9500s and 10s used the PTO style driveshaft, too if they had "contour master" leveling.)

We used a 1993 643 head on a 1969 105 for a few years.

Ditto on what Coonie Minnie shared. Had a 7700, then an early Titan, and finally a 9500. Currently using the same corn head on the 9500 that had been on the 7700, but just had to do some metal work for the feeder house reverser. The 9500 is a 1996 model, the second to the final year of the first Maximizers.

Thanks for the replies, fellows. I sort of thought that, based on no discussion at all on the internet about which headers fit what...

But I know years ago, Dad bought what appeared to be a very nice JD feeder house at an auction thinking it would be good for parts for the old 7700 combine we had at the time, and got it home, and it was slightly narrower or something that made it useless for parts...

Been too many years now to remember exactly what the snafu was, but it had me a bit worried about a "size break" in there somewhere...

The feederhouses themselves are pretty unique to each combine. The chain inside will match the cylinder width of the combine. So a feederhouse from a 7700 shares very few parts with say on from a 6620 or 4400. The mounts for the head are interchangeable, but the rest is not.

OK - thanks! That makes a lot of sense. I just remember Dad was so proud of getting that thing for $10 or whatever, and then was pretty disappointed to find very few commonalities between it and what we had.
