Early yesterday morning I took a 150 mile drive to the north to attend a farm sale south of St Joseph,MO...Its a very scenic area...The wind was out of the north and it was a little chilly at the start of the sale..Heres some pictures and results..

1-Case-IH 1680 combine -----$7750---Had $30,000 spent on it several years ago with rebuilt engine and tranny-etc....The Case-IH 1063 corn head sold for $700..

2-New Holland 8 row corn head with IH adapter-----$600 There was no grain head as he hired his beans cut..

3--Case-IH 7250 tractor----$31,500----Consigned by a neighbor...

4-2010 Case-IH MX 125 tractor with loader-----$51,500---1200 hours..

5-1990 Case-IH 7120-----$30,000

6-1979 IH 1486 tractor----$10,100---had 5326 hours-very nice..

7-1979 IH 1086 tractor with loader-----$9,000

8-1959 IH 560 diesel tractor----$4,400-----New 16.9x38's-started nice on a chilly morning-parade ready..

9-1959 IH 460 gas tractor ----$2600---nice tractor with almost new 14.9x38's..

10-1954 Super MTA Farmall tractor---$3500---nice tractor that sold way too cheap..

11-1951 M Farmall tractor---$3300---nice tractor that 2 guys wanted..

12-1951 Farmall H----$900---a 1945 H sold for $850....

13-Early 1950's Wards ER tractor which is the one I came to buy and I ended up getting it..

14-1990 IH 4700 10 wheeler---$9500--48,000 miles--like new 18 ft bed..

15-IH 4300 24 ft field cultivator---$5,000---The 496 IH 22 disk beside it sold for $5,200 and it needed blades..

16-17-There was a fantastic view to the southwest and west...You could see in to Kansas..

18-The seller is quite a collector..

There was lots more than what I shown...The auction started at 9:30 am and was over at 12 noon..The auctioneer moved and there was no small stuff..I should have shown a picture of the 544 IH with a 350 Chevy in it..Even though the seller has farmed for 60 years he kept some stuff..

Magnums went cheap enough too. We just had a local sale where a 7120 went for $83,000. It had 1800 hrs on it. Didn't go to the sale. Everything was in excellent shape.

Saw a old Dodge truck behind the New Holland head, wondered what they got out of that

Mrs. Oliverguy would be happy mr. Oliverguy wasn't at that sale, there would be some stuff following me home if I had been there.

I wish it was free...Lets just say that way back in 1969 I paid $300 for a running Wards HR with a 2 row cultivator....This one went high enough that the figure makes me sick to look at it....I knew it was my last chance to buy a restorable Wards tractor as they rarely ever come up for auction.....The prices on restored ones have gotten crazy...

Ande,it didn't sell as it was part of his filling station display...He was a IH and Dodge man...

1-A better look at the Dodge truck..

2-544 IH with 350 Chevy that he kept..

3-The 986 IH by the shed was supposed to be sold but something it needed didn't get done so he kept it..

Yes,the combine sold very cheap for what had been recently spent on it..They had to beg to get bids...

1-The Kinze 2600 12-23 planter sold for $13,750...

2-Some of his antique machinery that he kept...

I'm guessing your not a kid anymore. If you don't spend it , the Dr's, nursing homes or heirs will get it. Neighbor had one of those. Did a lot of pulling with it and did quite well. But he up and died on us. Suppose the kids still have the tractor.

Thanks for the pictures and results, the grain truck looked like a real good deal too. What engine does that Ward tractor have, and does it have a split exhaust manifold or is one tube the intake pipe? Interesting tractor, can't say I have ever seen one in person, did they get bought out by another mfg.?

The bigger stuff was reasonable but it looks like the older farmalls sold well. Personally I wouldn't pay a dime for any 4 or 560.

The Wards ER tractor has a 250.6 cubic inch flathead 6 cylinder Chrysler industrial engine....The smaller HR has a 230 cubic inch flathead 6 cylinder Chrysler industrial engine....They were built from around 1948-52 by the Lowther Corporation at Joliet,Illinois..They were sold by the Montgomery Wards farm stores...You could get them with single or dual exhaust....Mine is a truck manifold that someone did a nice job on...

This is the 4th Wards tractor I've owned...They made great pulling tractors...Back in the 1970's there were probably 15 of them pulling the 4500-5000 lb SS classes in Missouri..I was one of them..

The picture is Russell Miner from Pleasant Plains,Illinois..In Sept 1969 his Wards ER tractor won the 5000 lb class at the M&W Gear Co pull....This was the most prestigious pull in the US..I was there and watched him win....Thats him holding the trophy in 1969..I bought this tractor from him in 1971 and pulled it until 1983..I then traded it back to Russell for a stock Wards....Hes still alive and the Wards now looks exactly like it did in 1969....He still had the 23.1x30 tires that he won the M&W pull with..That tractor turned 6200 RPMs..We dynoed it and at 2200 rpms it made 122 horsepower with 2-1 barrel carbs on a factory manifold..Stock was around 50 HP..

I have lots of pictures of Wards tractors that used to pull..There were similar tractors sold in that time period called the Simpson Jumbo,Lehr Big Boy,Custom,Rockol,etc..Heres my original Wards sales literature which is quite valuable..

Thanks for the reply, interesting background on the Ward tractor. They must have been a well built tractor to handle all the extra hp. I like the photo of Russell's pulling tractor, that's a lot of tire on that tractor. I noticed the tractor you bought has the exact same rear tires as the brochure, that tread design can't be too easy to find anymore.

Heres some screaming Wards pullers from the 1970's...

1-Ken Penn from Lewistown,MO with the "Jolly Dolly" Wards.....6500-7000 rpms, turboed, and probably made 300 plus horses..

2-Conrad Cole from Gallatin,MO on the "Ole King Cole 1" Wards puller.....Another very hot Wards..He also had "Ole King Cole 11..This may be the hood thats on my Wards as I hear that my tractor came from Coles....Its been patched where the turbo came out..

3-The Hill Brothers from Pleasant Hill,Illinois at their home town pull in 1969.....They pulled the "Firebug 1 and Firebug 11 Wards pullers..Firebug II had twin Corvair turbos and made 170 HP.........Firebug 1 won the 5000 lb class at the big indoor pull at Louisville,Kentucky in 1969 and 1970.....1st place paid $1,000..

4 and 5-Russell Miner winning the 1969 MW pull at LaPlata,MO and getting his 1st place trophy from Elmo Meiners MW president..I took these pictures and the others..Russell Miner is a class guy...I've been to his farm 2 times..

Great set of pulling tractors, looks like they pushed them hard, but had fun doing it. I like the JD flywheel? on the "Ole King Cole". Thanks for the pictures.

Magnums sound cheap, higher hours on them? Would love to trade my 1486 for a 7120 or 7130. The grain truck was also pretty reasonable, I could of used that as well.

Conrad and Greg Cole farmed with JD's...In the late 1980's-early 1990's the Coles pulled a pair of JD 4250 diesel super stocks...
