Gleaner K Chain

I looked on Agco but they didn't tell me what I needed to know about a chain on my Gleaner K, what is the number and total links on the chain that drives the raddle chain sprocket and about 3-4 other sprockets? Its a very long chain and mine is coming apart and needs replacing this summer.

Polish up the side of a couple links - spit and rub.

A number will be stamped on it, 50 or 60 most likely. Might have a 60H for heavy duty.

That's the chain.

Then you count the links, and buy that many. Most ag suppliers you can but bulk cut to length, or buy 10 foot rolls and break off what you need yourself. Suit yourself. Good chain will cost more. Some folks count every rivet as a link; some folks will count every combo of inner and outer link as a 'link'. In the end it doesn't matter, as long as you do it the same for the old and new.

Get a mender link (one typically comes in a box of 10 foot) and perhaps a half link. They are often sold in 3-packs. Half links are weak so you hate to use one, but sometimes you need to.

Remember the new chain will be shorter than the old chain, the old is stretched out and elongated. So you likely will need to shorten up the adjuster wood block or idler pulley about as short as it goes most likely.

Over the years Gleaner changed setups and the way shafts are driven, so be careful if you get a number from someone, that they have the same version of K as yours......

If it"s the one I"m thinking of, on the right side, it"s a 2050 chain...long links that span bigger teeth. I might still have a Model K parts book- will check, but once you know the number, just buy a ten foot bulk roll.
