On the way home from the Paola,KS Allis sale today I circled by an upcoming sale that has a 40 JD combine on it...Check out the home made wood cab...The drive tires are good and the motor is free....It may run? I don't want it and I hope that it doesn't go for scrap..

At todays scrap prices it would not take much to out bid the scrappers.

Reminds me of a plywood cab I built on a Z Moline with a 45 JD loader in the winter of 68-9.

Around here it takes lots of money to outbid the scrap buyers.....I know one that will pay $300-400 or more for it...Scrap can be $50 a ton and he will pay $100-150 a ton..He buys for a large yard that seems to get lots of money for it..

There was a sale at Dighton,KS yesterday with about 30 old tractors,mostly D John Deeres...From another topic on here it sounds like the scrappers got most of them..It was 350 miles out there for me so I went to the AC sale at Paola,KS which was only 85 miles away...There were no scrappers there.

Which is worse - a retired farmer (or his widow) getting something for the machinery (even if its just scrap price) or them getting screwed over by some guy wanting to add to his hobby?
