The 40 JD Combine Sold For $1300

Today I attended a consignment sale at Ft Scott,KS with a 40 JD combine......I put some pictures of it on here last weekend..The bidding on the 40 JD combine started at $500 and ended up at $1300...It ran good..

There also was a rough 205 JD corn head for the 40..It sold for $100 to the guy that bought the combine..Heres a few prices from memory...I didn't take any pictures..

706 IH Gas---- $2500-average condition--nice 18.4x34's
706 IH Diesel with D282-fair condition--- $2500-ran good-18.4x38's almost bald..
H Farmall----$725-1 new rear tire and ran nice..
Like new 4 row White planter---$1,000
Nice IH 370 14 ft Disk----$1500
Krause 21 ft disk----$2600---A nice 25 ft Krause disk sold for $4600
IH 24 ft Field Cultivator---$1700

There was lots of haying machinery..Several new cattle trailers sold for $9000-$11,000..

Sounds like it sold well. I wonder if the 40's popularity is because of its size? With an 8 ft. platform or 2 row corn head I suppose they could safely be hauled on a gooseneck trailer.

Man I wish more old combines would sell at that or higher priced then the scrapers wouldn't get them

Compared to most combines a 40 JD is a piece of cake to haul.....I forgot to mention that the runner-up bidder at the sale was a 95 year old man and his daughter whom I know....They use a 40 JD to cut fescue seed..

What model of White planter was it? Did it have a pto pump or the electric fans?

I can't remember the model number but I believe that it had a pto pump....There isn't a White planter in my area but quite a few were sold in the Iola,KS area 65 miles to the west as they had a great dealer..

Yes sir, that's what I had in mind. The 45 and larger combines are not quite so easy....

55s will fit on a 8ft wide gooseneck so I would assume the 45s would too.

There is a 40 sitting not far from me that can be bought. Hasn't ran for several years but was driven where it sits. If anyone is interested I can give you the info. It is in east central Ohio near New Philadelphia.

They do, but being over height is an issue especially on the 55-105. They either have to have the tires removed or hauled on a detach neck lowboy. The headers on 45-105 are also to wide for hauling..
