Massey Harris Clipper Combine

What years were the clipper combines built? I inherited (uncle wanted it out of his barn) a pull behind one. Just hooked it up to my john deere b and got it going last night. What an awesome feeling it was knowing that was the first time in 40 years or so that it had ran! I also have the canvas for the feeder pickup as well, and it looks to be in good shape. Time to go buy some oats seed!

Neighbor bought one just to harvest 30 - 40 acres of soybeans. Some of the neighbors saw how good a job that machine did and hired him to combine their soybeans, which kept him busy until snow/freeze up. I think his first custom job more than paid for the combine and he was having fun with the combine.

My dad brought a 50 clipper new. I'm thinking it was in the late 50's when we got it. I had to ride in the hopper and push the grain away so he could get more in the hopper when he first got it. I started running it in the early sixties when I was old enough. We used it in wheat and oats and run it through about 40-50 acres a year. The only problems I can remember we had was with the canvas. He sold it in his auction in 1973. Our neighbor had one, don't remember the model, but it was a little older than ours and had a bagger on it instead of the hopper.

The Clipper SP combines were built from 1947-54 so the pull types were built in that time frame....In the 1950's there were a couple of Clippers in the neighborhood....Sounds like you have a nice one..

Don't know the years, but that was the machine my Dad used. We would do 5 acres or so of oats every other year for the cows. It was a treat to watch. Very fascinating machine to me and only came out every other year or so. My Dad took care of all the work on this harvest so it was great to just sit back and watch the show.

I rent some land from a retired farmer who has a pull type Clipper parked in the weeds. Would only be usable for parts, at this point. Only one I've ever seen.

Dad had a Massy Harris 50 combine powered with a 4 cylinder Wisconsin engine. He would have bought it new and he pulled it with an 8N Ford. Later he bought a Massy Harris Feguson 50 tractor after he purchased addition acreage. Since the larger tractor could maintain the combine speed on hills, he added a PTO shaft kit and removed the Wisconsin engine. He did custom work for neighbors with the combine.

Tell you a funny story: We had a neighbor that tended to take advantage of people - dad did not like to deal with him. However, he would come over and talk sweet to dad until he accepted - mom would always say, "you know better than to deal with him - you will be upset again". So, it was 20 acres of wheat and Dad charged by the acre. Dad always took the farmer at their work as to the size of the field. Dad finished after the third day and I remember him complianing while milking the cows - "that field is the biggest 20 acres I ever seen!".

In 2007 I bought that farm; that 20 acre field is actually 26 acres. 6 acres makes a big difference with a small combine and a 8N Ford.

Enjoy your combine - Please post a picture.

FYI - make sure to keep the mice away from the canvas. They will chew it full of holes.

I know i know, its outside during a snowstorm, i just gotta get a bunch of stuff in the loft of my shed, then it will be sitting in there! let me know if the pics dont work, Thanks

Nice pictures. I see yours has the PTO drive - dad used to hate the wisconsin motor on his. After sitting all winter it was problematic to get that first start of the season.

What is the round cylinder on the side of the grain hopper? Our's did not have that.

yours looks like its in better shape!, i just purchased 4 bags of oats seed today, i think i saw my massey smile a little bit when i unloaded the seed.

I also have a Clipper Combine. It's a toy pull type and it's hooked to plastic Farmall M been hooked together and parked on the same shelf for a lot of years. Yes I would sell it. Don't care if I do or not. The Clipper Combine 350 Dollars and you can have the old plastic M for another 100 Dollars. Jack

By the way I also have a Massy Harris grain scoop. It was factory made and a Dealer gave them to his costumers. Don't know what I would take for that. Jack

If i wanted a clipper combine toy that bad i could go on ebay right now and place a bid of 149.95 plus 15 dollars shipping. You may want to consider photo ads on this site instead of discussion forums, If you had certain parts for my clipper combine i would maybe be interested.

I would most likely have them but don't want to sell them. The price for the toy was because I really don't want to sell it. So that is why I put it on here just something to talk about. So don't get mad at me for posting it on here. In fact if you come over to my house I'll let you play with it.
