Does anyone on here have or heard of fox 6860 chopper they were the largest and last model made before hiniker bought them and ceased production Talked to a guy that knew of two in Wyoming around 10 yrs ago Would love to locate them but this is probably a long shot in the dark any info would be appreciated

Been looking for one for 6 years now - if you find one, let me know! :)

They used a twin turbo Detroit V-92.

Could be equipped with Fox's version of a crop processor, the Kernal Breaker system. It was basically a forage
mill.

Very beefy machine. Really, about the same as a 6650, but with more power, slightly different frame and sheet
metal. Cutterhead parts are the same, I believe.

I have yet to find a parts manual anywhere for one - on equipment of any sort, I usually find parts manuals 1st,
2nd, look up the high wear items, see if they are available, or able to be made, and that usually decides if it is a
good idea or not.

The series was 6460, 6660, and the 6860.

Best of luck - hope you find one!

I know where serial numer one is at but it is not for sale but it is 6660 same guy has # 13 it is for sale but has a whopping price tag For the amount he is asking I would better off to get larger newer capacity yellow or green. By the way both #1 and 13 are in factory mint condition

No kidding?

I can only imagine what he is asking - they were
pricey when new. What is asking - ballpark-ish?

I would love to get any one of the last series of
machines Fox built - i do wonder about parts
availability though.

Do you have any idea how many of the last series
of machines they built?

He is asking 50000 for it with out the head another 5000 for the head but it is had a down to the frame restoration New bearings chains knives whatever it needed can't make up my mind if it is worth that to me or not There are some diff between the 66 and the 68 engines 277 and 345 hosses one radiator and two along some other small details according to my parts manuals but the chopper unit is the same as 6650 but 6650 are a little light for the four row heads. Still have not laid a location on a 6860 other than talking to a older man in indiania who had seen one about 10 years ago. It sold and he knew it went to Wyoming and he says that there was another one out there also but had lost track of the machines and could not remember the owners name

That is about 20 more than I would think one would
go for - but then again, if it had a complete rebuild,
those items add up real fast. I see worn out JD
5400 series go for 30 at dealers around here all the
time.

How is the spare parts situation on those? I guess
most parts are either Detroit, Twin Disc, or
Sundstrand - should be good there?

I suppose in that price range, any machine will be
older.

That is a tough call.

Don't know how many we're made I've heard 24 but that is rumor Could not have been many they were only built 84,85 and the part of 86 that fox was still in business Talked to a guy at hiniker said that he just had went to work for hiniker when they bought them and remembered only three self propellers were on the property but didn't know what models they were He said they drilled the fox ID tags off and put hinikers on and sent them out to various dealers I have a 4510 pulltype that has hiniker ID tag on it Rumor is there was less than 50 of these made but who knows hiniker did not keep any sales history They bought them with intentions of ceasing production and selling parts inventory along with equipment that was already assembled I do know that some of the 60 series were sent to holland via a importer located over there how many I do not know. From the people that I have talked to I get the feeling more of the 6660 were made than the 6460 or 6860

I have one of the last 6250,s made and part that I had problems with were blower and spout items but ended up fabing myself. No big deal there ,also the pan under the knives also easy fabed. Parts that are not easy is sheet metal parts on the heads Done that too. But I had agood pattern to go by. The secret is to replicate them before they are completely worn out

Yes, there are quite a few pictures of those on FarmPhoto.com - all seem to be in Holland.

I hear you on the fabricating your own parts - I have made quite a few myself. I have been able to find many NOS
parts for my Super D, but they made thousands of those over the years, so there are alot of parts around. No spouts
though! I made liners out of sheet plastic, and I take them out and clean the bejeezers out of the spout every year.
FYI, it seems the whole bower band/fan/spout base are the same on almost all the SPF's to the Super E's, as well as
the pull types - I have purchased pull types for scrap $ just to get the blower/cutter parts. On the older SPF's,
the spout is the same as the pull types - they just added a longer run of chute after the bend. Your 6650 has what I
call the "new style" spout. It is heavy, and very much more of a SPF specific part. Hard to fabricate on your own.

I would imagine the 6660's were most popular - you still got the Detroit 2 stroke, over the 4 stroke in the 6460,
with the turbos, and did not have to pay the huge price difference to get the 6V92TT engine, which I would imagine
was a huge price difference. I was talking to a fellow, and he had acquired a FOX Super D from a neighbor, that
bought it new in 1969, and the machine was $17,000 with the gas engine - diesel option was $3000 more. In 1969
dollar value that is $110,000 for the gas machine, and another $19,000 for the diesel option.

I want to say I saw a 6660 with a Kemper head on it, in PA, for sale, 5 or 6 years ago - it went fast, and it was
one of those "call for price" ads.

Still would love to get a 6650, or 6660 someday! I figure I will just buy a broken one, and fix it, since any
combine or forage harvester with 3000 hours on it is pretty much in need of a rebuild at that point anyway.
