Massey Ferguson Combines

When I was a kid we had a 26 massey harris and then moved up to a 300 massey ferguson. My question is this, was there a 400 and a 500 combine.
I have never seen them but was told they did exist. All I remember was the 410 and 510. And if this was an ongoing progression why wasn't there
a 310 machine? BTW we and the neighbors alike thought we had the Cadillac of machines at the time with that 300.

Wasn't the 750 in that same time frame? My brother bought a new 510 with the chev v8 gas in it and an uncle had a 750.

the 300 was a caddie of all machines of that era,..i think production ran from 1961 thru 1978 ,,,.with very minor changes .. I have a 1964 , 1968 gassers , and a 1976 perkins diesel,300,,. all belts are interchangeable .

(quoted from post at 07:44:01 02/23/16) The 300 was the smallest and then the 410 and 510.

They were all built at the same time. The 4 & 510 went through many upgrades during their production.

There was also the 205 built in the same time frame. Smaller than a 300, engine on top like a Gleaner. Seems like it was the economy model.

The 300 had a lot of upgrades along the way too. Quick-tach heads and a Perkins diesel being the most notable.

Nice video about the early Massey Ferguson combines. About half way thru it talks about 300, 410, and 510 combines.

We had a couple of 510s. One was a 1964 and the other a 1976. Some big differences between the two. The early one had the non quick tach header, regular shoe, no beater in front of the cylinder, and non adjustable steering column. The 2nd one was a "Western Special" so it had a taller grain tank too. We thought we had the Cadillac of combines too. But I know our cousins right across the fence spent less time, money, maintenance keeping their JD 105 going. At that thing knocked out as much acres as both our 510s together did every year. Still for old times sake we ended up with our neighbor's 1977 510 when we pawned it off on us. This one has a diesel so that is a big plus.
