Cracker plate for harvester

Hello there,

Wondering if many of you have used cracker plates in your forage harvesters? I am looking to break up the cob a bit better. I see that Koomia sells them - looks pretty straight forward.

I am wondering if it is possible to adapt one/fabricate one into my Fox Super D.

Appreciate any thoughts.

neighbor put one in his 2115 new holland that we use with a combine head for high moisture corn, instead of buying a screen. i think the screen would have been the better choice- too many long husks and cob pieces now. my unisystem with a screen makes finer HMEC. maybe the plate would work better in silage.

there should be a spot to put in a recutter screen behind the knives
if not you could make it there places that make them any size or thickness

Thanks for the replies.

I have the screens - just thought that a plate would use a bit less power. I have not ran a cracking plate on a forage harvester, but I have ran screens.

I would think you could make one fit just above the piece of sheet metal under the knives. If you google it I think there was a article in farm show magazine a long time ago

You can adapt the one form koomia uses very littl power if any You said you have run a screen before so you have the mounting brackets already just remember to maintain the 16 inch cutting circle that fox required for the knives and shear bar settings

I would try using the screens that u already have to fabricate one all you are trying to replicate is the horizontal section with the raised fingers just make sure the raised fingers are no taller than the inside diameter of the side supports of the screen
