Gleaner K Fluid

The book on my Gleaner K says to use Type "A" transmission fluid for the hydraulics. Sometimes that is hard to find, what other kinds can be used? what do you guys use in yours??

Dextron 2 Your Agco dealer should have some; really I think most any kind of ATF would work.

As I recall, type A became dexron. I have used hyd/trans oil in a Gleaner with no problem.

There may have been others, but I recall in the D17IV and 180 era, tractors coming from the factory with red oil in the power director compartment. I never found out why they did that. Maybe they got a deal on the oil!

One other thing I meant to ask, I changed the fluid last year and put liquid Teflon and tried Teflon tape as well on the pipe plug at the bottom of the canister. It drips fluid from around the pipe plug, didn't do it before and I've got it as tight as I can, you guys ever had this happen? What would be the fix??

I was thinking the drain plug on a Gleaner hydraulic reservoir was a straight thread with o-ring. So I looked up the K. It shows the tank on top of the hyd. pump, just like the old E. I don't recall them having any drain. I looked up the K2, and it describes the drain plug as 1/2NPT, but it shows an o-ring with it! 70921349. So, as usual, Agco's website just adds to the confusion!
