This press release picture was taken 9-16-1944 near Mapleton,North Dakota....Its a pair of 1944 model 20 Massey Harris SP combines at work...They were 2 of 500 new Harvest Brigade combines that began harvest in Texas and worked north...Today very-very few of these combines exist..

I was under the impression Massey quit production of the 20 when the 21 came out. And wasn't it the 21/21A that made up the Harvest Brigade.

Yes,the press release information doesn't really match the picture...I think the 21 came out in 1943?

Where did you get this photo? Tell us more.

There is a lot of information about the "Harvest Brigade" on the internet including an article reprinted that was written by Joe Tucker a Massey Harris employee who convinced the US government to allow MH to build 500 of the 21A combines and have custom operators each do a certain number of acres of grain. No mention is made of the model 20.

I think I saw it on ebay...Maybe the custom combiner was running some 20 Massey's and the reporter taking the pictures thought that they were part of the Harvest Brigade..

I have an early MH combine brochure (not dated) that advertises both the #20 and #21 combines which would indicate they were sold concurrently for a while at least. The #21 shown is in the unpainted, galvanized version. I don't know when MH switched from the galvanized to the red-painted 21's, but as I recall Blaine had a photo of a galvanized #21 posted on here quite a while back. As far as I know the #20 was only produced in galvanized, unpainted form.
