Sharp eye Bob ! yes I did , I built extentions out of plywood and painted them up and installed a bin light for night combining

What a great run of machines. I operated them from about age 15 to 55. Dad bought one of the last new "E"s in 1967. Later I bought one at auction, and was surprised to learn there were quite a few changes from the early E. Then I found a loaded K2 in need of a lot of TLC. But after just a few years I upsized to a F2.

Yeah , I really enjoy running a gleaner , I started out with a cockshutt 422 pull type , then a little Massey 35sp , then a 1971 gleaner k , and now the 77 K2 , I would love to find a late K2 diesel long back but not many around

Thanks for reply centash (ben), your half correct , an F2 would be a better buy , but my heads won't fit an F2 , I have a 238 2 row corn head, 10 foot straight grain head and a 12 foot floating head that will only fit the k series . I do have a 335 3 row corn head for parts and it has dual mounting for the k series and f series . I guess only some heads were made for both ?

The black heads were the same basic units, but came with different "finishing", or "attaching" packages. And I think some of the M/L grain heads would interchange also. But it's been so long since I've worked on them, I can't remember anything for sure! They did some funny things. I was able to buy a FL330 (orange) cheap because even with narrow tires, the F was just too wide to navigate between the corn rows. I re worked it first for my E, then the K2, which have the same throat width.

So what your saying Bob , is that I could modify my 12 foot floating head to fit onto an F2 without too much work (and much cheaper than buying another head )

No, I wasn't saying that. I suppose you could, but it would be a lot of work. When I re built the F corn head to fit my E, I had an old high profile two row off an E. I cut the attaching part right off the back end of the header, and slid it right into the throat of the F corn head, and welded it in place. The harder part was arranging the drive. It would be very difficult to go the other way.

Thanks for your input Bob , its nice to chat with other guys who run similar equipment , I plan on running my K2 for a few years yet anyways , unless something comes along that I can't resist lol

You have to take a look at it. Later heads had a panel that bolted in place to fill in the space for a narrower throat on the K; as well there should be two pairs of bolt holes/slots for the header hooks to fit into. If your header does not have those, they will not interchange easily, and probably came from an E series. A 330 corn head should fit on an F if the rim offset is the right way and has 18.4 tires or narrower.
