Deere 55 concave removal troubles

I attempted to remove the concave from our 55 today to replace it with a new one. It comes out/forward about 3 inches then stops. I think the welded bosses that retain the rear of the concave are hitting the metal overlap on the sides of the separator/combine body. It looks like it would be no problem to put it in since the overlap of the tin would be in the correct direction but it sure can't come out.

Has anyone else ever had this problem on their 5 series combine? There sure isn't much room for pushing or prying from the back side. Looks like I'm going to have to spread the body of the combine somehow? Any thoughts or experience from anyone?

We already had the QT feeder house off so this should have been a project that only lasted an hour or two. We worked for three hours and got nowhere.

I remember having a hard time changing one on the 105. Seem to remember having to use a come-a-long , and doing a lot of pounding.

It was 15 years ago, sorry I don't remember all the little details you are needing now.

Where did you find a new one? Or is it a new to you one?

Yeah, I gave it the old college try with the come along. The concave mooves fairly freely now. It just dead stops when those bosses hit the overlapping body metal.

The combine body is going to have to be spread somehow... I will dress the NOS concave before I install so that this won't be a problem next time. The bosses stick out 1/4" or so past the concave on the new one. It's no wonder that it won't come past. I'm sure the last guy just beat it in with a block of wood and hammer.

My concave is actually NOS. it came from WY.

When the concave is all the way in could you slide a sheet of standing seam coil roofing past the concave. Then when you slide out it would be smooth sliding. Never changed one so do not know if this is possible or not. Good luck.

Take the fire wrench and cut it in two. It is junk anyway and it will just fall out if cut. Just have a water hose handy if it is not clean of trash.

William just cut the old one in half. That is how we used to do them all of the time. You can damage the sides spreading them.
