a really nice M2 is coming up for sale next week
I have a pretty nice F3 4wd not sure if I should try to buy the M2 or just keep the f3? I run around 350 ac. so not sure to spend the money and then try to unload the F later.
what are your thoughts and what do you think it might bring. Gleaners are about gone here and I know its an older machine.

The M2 would not have the same controls for an M flex bean head, but it can be changed over. Parts NLA from Gleaner, but some dealer may have NOS, or go to salvage yards. Many already have been "gleaned" for that purpose. (pun intended)

its a complete deal , M2 , 315 flex head and 6-30" corn head . all very nice , so not sure what you were getting at.

When corn yields started really climbing, my poor F2 was really choking. When I had to dump on each end of even a moderate size field, it was time to do something different. If I had at least an M2(or newer or bigger), I probably would have kept it. My F2 was gear drive, and I was ready for the convenience of a hydro, plus I could hardly reach over my truck with it. The problem though with an M series and a 6 row head, I think is still going to be limited in todays corn, just like my F2 was. I think an L series is more the true 6 row machine. Gleaner has died around here. I found a nice, late CaseIH 1660. It holds 250 bu., and with a 6 row head, I wouldn't want any less capacity.

Hmmmm...good question. You will get more capacity from the M2 for sure, but its pretty hard to beat an F3 on fuel used per acre. Your ground speed in similar crops will be about the same using a 6 row on an M vs 4 row on an F, but your acres covered per hour will be just about 6/4 as much with the M. If soft fields are a concern, the F3 4wd wins hands down...Make sure the M2 is a long shoe model

I bought my bare M2 hydro a dozen years ago for $2800, dealer auction in Iowa. 630 black head at auction in central MN for $2250. Four years ago, private sale, $2250 for an M315 flex head. Spent a few hundred to update to the M3 header control module/wiring. I still have notes with part numbers to do that update, should you need them.

So I did ok with my M3, hydro, 6-30, 20 foot bean head, and dummy head for under $15 a few years ago? Got the third harvest with not many issues at all.

Got that and a bigger wagon, so I didnt have to unload at both ends of the field like the F3. Now with better fertility and some tile and we had a perfect year once in a lifetime yields this past year, was back to unloading at both ends again....

A good problem to have I guess. :)

Actually a nice 62 coming up on auction here end of the week.

But, I need to focus on a tractor first!

Had an F series also and jumped to the L series. That thing will eat beans but I have a parts dealer 5 miles away. Did 200 acres custom this year and my area is predominantly Deere. Overheard some locals laughing because I was doing "custom" work with an 80's model combine. Had 2 different "Deere" guys look at my sample and by the end of the season they were asking me how I was keeping my sample so clean and not throwing it out the back? Stay with Gleaner but a M series might not be that big of a jump.
