While they weren't sold in huge numbers here in western Canada there were quite a few around. The early ones suffered from being rushed to market prematurely so White had to do a lot of updates on them. As well they were introduced about the time the 23% interest rates hit and White was going through financial convulsions.

They were a pretty impressive combine. I know of one outfit that ran three 9700/9720's for a number of years. Cockshutt had a lot of loyal customers and that carried over to the White era. The current Massey rotaries trace their lineage back to those White rotaries.

There were quite a few sold around my area (north central ND). I wanted one, but never made that happen. They seemed to be good machines, but (at least in our area) suffered from a lack of dealer and/or corporate support.

Thanks for posting! I really like seeing those combines there's not a lot of them left. We have a 9700 that we've had for 19 years and we love it! Like Jim in sask said they did have a lot of problems and they were also to big for there time. JD and IH didn't have a combine close to this size until the mid 90s. I heard when massy bought the white combine line the 8560 which was the 9320 white out sold the bigger 8590 which was the 9720, 6 to 1. We have most of the updates on our 9700 and it's a really good combine. If we needed another combine I might have to go look at that one. Thanks again for posting. Is it for sale on Craigslist or what?

Farm here in Eastern Alberta farmed with 6 of those beasts for most of the 80's/90's. They took off a township worth of crop for close to 20 years. 9720 is what they to use.

Click the link for the ad....At the time it came out the White 9700 was just too big for my area plus we had very
few White dealers.....They had a good White dealer at Iola,Kansas 70 miles to the west and he sold several
9700's as the farms were larger there....I remember that around 1982-83 there was a low hour 9700 White for
sale in SE Kansas for what seemed to be a bargain price....I almost called the seller to check it out..
9700 White

I remember the talk of them as they were built down the road in Brantford Ont. A few years later when White shut down, there was a sale there and I know of at least two machines that were driven from the plant to the farm. Cannot say what model they were. After that I worked for a Massey dealer and we did a lot of trucking including moving a lot of rotary components to Masseys facilities in Guelph and later Brandon Manitoba.
It is said that the mention of Massey or White in Brantford still may cause for an impolite response. There was a lot of families stung when that era ended.
