715 Combine Question

The picture of the 715 Combine that 1206SWMO owned shows a somewhat different cab than what I have seen on 715s in my local area. Attached is a picture I took years ago, probably around 1974 or 75, of number of new 715 combines at a local dealer. I noticed that the cabs on these look like the cab on my 1972 IH 205 combine. The cab on 1206SWMO's combine shows that the lights and grill for the fan cab are built into the cab. Did IH offer two different cabs or did the later model 715's have a different cab. Just curious if anyone knows. Thanks Al.

I think the later models had an updated cab. Dad owned a 715, bought it used. It was advertised as a 78 model.... but I am not sure if they were even made in 78.

It had the newer style cab with the long rectangle filter behind a louvered door. It also had a factory equiped shaft speed monitor.

I believe 1976 or 1977 was the year of the serial number break in IH 715s but I would have to get my books out to be sure. The later combines had the updated cabs as in Blaine's pictures. Air conditioning was a factory option in the newer cabs and the heater was updated among other things. The last year for 715s was 1979.

I really like your picture. It shows early 715s before the 800 series heads and feederhouse were available. Somewhere on that dealer lot would have been all of the old style heads. You see a lot of these early combines now, at least the ones that are still being used, with feederhouses on them that were either salvaged from newer machines or bought new when the combine was a couple years old and installed on the older machine.
