Today I attended the Cleaver estate sale west of Ft Scott,Kansas..It was an absolutely miserable day with rain,a north wind, and the temperature in the mid 30's...Overnite 3-5" of rain had fallen so it was a muddy mess at the sale.....I had 3.2" at my place..
My brother said that he thought that my old 715 IH combine was on the Cleaver sale and he was right...I purchased this 1977 model 715 IH diesel new from Schell City Truck and Tractor at Schell City,MO...I have the original purchase order dated Oct 7,1977....It listed for $33,312 and I was given $23,000 for my trade in 1975 715 IH gas hydro combine that I had bought new in Schell City,MO....The interest rate on the balance was 15.9%..
I knew it was my old combine because of the M&W turbo, the IH We're Going On Decal, and that it was a belt drive....My brother worked at our local Allis Chalmers-Case dealer back then...A turboed 756 IH diesel was traded in there for a new 2290 Case....The AC dealer didn't want the M&W turbo on the 756 IH so I got it for nothing..
In 1983 I traded the 715 IH for a new F3 Gleaner...The neighbors said that my old 715 hadn't ran (engine still free) in several years and a shed had fallen on the back end of it messing it up....Sadly it sold today for scrap for $1,000....Someone needs to save the D-310 engine and turbo on that combine..
The first 4 pictures show it today...The bottom picture shows it stuck in November 1977 combining soybeans....It had Arps Half Tracks on it..This combine plowed more mud than any one combine should have ever had to do...We had terribly wet falls in 1977,1979,1981,1982,and 1983..In 1981 it mudded out 300 acres of wheat..That fall we mudded out 300 acres of double crop beans..
I'll try and get the rest of the sale results on Tractor Talk in the next few days...It was a large sale..
