Rust Bucket

Old 'Rust Bucket" finished another alfalfa seed harvest. A new set of pickup header belts and one chain repair was all it took.

One thing about combining alfalfa, you didn't have to stop very often to empty the hopper. Dad bought some thin metal plate with round holes that he made sieves out of to put in the combines instead of using the factory sieves that lost too much seed.

The 'old wreck" does a decent job. The guy that runs our local seed plant said ours was the cleanest he run last season. The sieve is an original JD part that the previous owner bought and had never used !

fixed sieves work very well for me as well, I do alfalfa as well when we have it, shot taken a week or so ago,,, thanks for the pics,,, these old girls still do a Great job

Can't help with the model# of the pickup attachment. There is a damaged decal in the side, I can only read 'John Deere' and a couple patent numbers. It has four 22" wide belts. I've seen others like this one around. A neighbor has a similar one on a 7700, however the belts are longer. The brackets that bolt on the front edge of the header are homemade, but otherwise everything looks to be original JD. I would guess that it would fit a newer machine if you had the right mount brackets.
