M2 Axle coupler

Was getting along pretty good last night about dark - cutting soybeans - when forward movement stopped. Found out the lefthand outer axle coupler had broken in two. Not sure why. I was on level ground, hopper 1/3 full, and it just gave up. I think we had one give out on our old 915 many years ago, and the Oliver I had was terrible about spinning them and rounding off the splines. That's a machine I don't miss... Hoping there's nothing serious wrong that would make that coupler break. Anyone had this happen on a Gleaner?

Splines wore to where they tried to jump a cog. When they jumped the pressure caused it to expand and break in two?

Just a guess.

Are the splines wore much?
