Last night a guy who I had cut for about 20 years ago came over a was asking to do his corn. He has another cutter lined up but he is about a week behind he just can't wait. The other cutter is my neighbor.I told him no because I did't want to step on my neighbors toes did I do the right thing?

I think you did,, only way I would do it for him is to talk to the other man and see how he feels,,, easy to make bad blood on these deals

I agree 100 percent. The only way you will know is to talk to him. He might even welcome the help if he is behind. Once behind, it just seems to snowball, at least for me.

You did the right thing. I have been on the receiving end of this as I have done a lot of custom cutting in my time. The customer gets nervous and tries to get someone else. He gets someone lined up and then tells the first cutter he is going to get someone else. The first guy drops what he is doing and the second guy gets left out. It is a form of manipulation I refuse to participate in. Also, these people are the kind that often don't pay their bill in a timely manner, either. Mike

Exactly what you did. Had a neighbor pull that on us for baling hay. He tried to get us to come back after the other guy overcharged him, but we declined to do any more work for him.

You did the right thing. I had a neighbor with a large yard who broke his lawn mower. Couldn't afford a new one. I offered to take down the grass and weeds and bale it. He said he would think about it and two days later the guy down the road came in and cut it and baled it. I don't think much of either neighbor now.

I've done the exact same thing. The one neighbor
was cranky but the other was thankful. The cranky
one is a rare bird anyway.

YES you did the right thing, I harvest about 400 to 500 ac for other people, tell me you got someone else your name is off the list, then call me back your on the bottom of the list

You obviously have a good neighbor and I think you did the right thing. My family has been on the other side of the coin--crop needs to come out, bad weather is coming, man with the combine is nowhere to be found. It can be a tough call sometimes. It's cost us some money too.

I agree you did the right thing, and I admire you, as you have the "right stuff"
