Searching for an intermediate feeder house for John Deere 55

I'm located in northwestern Illinois and I would like to find an intermediate feeder house for a John Deere 55 combine. I'd like to be able to upgrade to a newer style head and would like to try doing some sunflowers with a row crop header with it. Anyone know where there might be one for sale or abandoned in a fence line somewhere around here by chance? No hurry on it. I don't need it tomorrow but would like to get some feelers out there

Just a word of caution... what size row crop header are you thinking? The smallest is a 4 row wide, and the next is a 6 row narrow. I'm not sure if a 55 would handle either. I've heard of 653 heads put on
95's, but they required at least some weight on the back axle.

Not trying to burst any bubbles, I wish you luck.

They made a 4 row narrow row crop header also... Regardless I was also thinking of a small platform with pans to run soybeans as well. Regardless of what head I put on it I'm more interested in having more head options than fewer. Try finding a 3 row narrow corn head for a 55 sometime. Be prepared to spend 2-3 times what you can sell the combine for. I'm thinking that it I can put an intermediate feeder house on the 55 then I have more options for heads and much better designs on the newer heads.

Bubble not burst at all.

Have you ever thought about trying to match a feederhouse off a 3300 on to a 55? I've never heard of anybody doing that but it might be possible. Just throwing it out there.

They do exist but are a bit unusual for the smaller combines. They
seem dime/dozen for the 95/105 but as you've seen the 55 is a bit
more difficult. My 55 has one and I have a spare for a 45 that I
would sell but it wont help you out any.

You might try Bowie equipment in Tipton, IA. He keeps a few old 5
series machines around. There is also a place in OH that I think is
called Wilson Farms. I'm thinking the name of the town was
"fredricktown". I've been there and he had several 5 series machines
for salvage.

local farmer and friend ran a 6600 and a 55 John Deere combines. The 55 had a quick attach feeder house and platform he used to help the 6600 cut soybeans. He used a 443 corn on the 6600 for corn. Several years ago he lost the motor in the 6600 with 40 acres of corn left. He hung the 443 on the 55 and got the corn in. I helped him by running an auger wagon for him as the 55's grain tank would fill fast. He had extensions so it would hold about 100 bushels of corn. We shelled 3800 bushels of corn in one day with the 55 running in 175 BPA corn. I think he had to add several weights to the back of the machine to lift the header.

Did my 45 auger part work ok for your machine? I am using a 95 instead of the 55 this year in beans and can not believe how much more capacity it has. Tom

i have one for a 55 good cont. 800.00 dollars sw ohio

Hey Tom, we made it fit. Some holes were in the wrong location and the hinge was a bit different and had to be shimmed but it was still better than the one we had :). We should be cutting some lespedeza seed sometime in the next few weeks so we will be trying it out. I think it will work fine.

I'm sure the 95 is impressive against the 55. It has 1/3 more capacity and HP.
