Got the JD95 in soybeans today

I spent the last 2 day waiting for the drive belt for the unloading auger to come. This morning at 10;15 UPS arrived with my new belt and it was still cheaper then JD. But JD dealer told me it was NLA and they went going to support the old 95 anymore so I got one from an industrial supplier shipped to me and it was a perfect fit! Now I did have to do some adjusting (2 hours) to get it to stop turning when you shut it off. I fired her up and headed to the field. 3 rounds around a 22 acre field and the bin was good and full and of course it was picture time. Every year I snap a pic of the first bin load and me and dad bet to see who is closest on the yield for the field, Dad said 40 I said I'll be happy with 37 for this screwed up year. Got my Oliver 1550 Utility out for wagon duty and put her to work. The old JD 95 was sure humming along and giving a good sample in the bin so I was happy. All and all she did good today so I cant complain and it turned into a long day for sure. Its real hard when your doing it all alone, Dad is still on the mend in the wheel chair and I know he wants to be right there with me but he cant right now. So me and mom got him in the van and to the field for 1/2 the day till he got tired and he headed for the house. It was a good first day and the beans seam to be yielding good and there is a semi load sitting in the barn to loaded in the morning so it was a good day today. Bandit

And the combine didn't cost $300,000 plus either, which makes it an even better day.

Great pics and story
Thanks for sharing

We started beans two days ago with our 95. After using a 55 for the past several years in beans I could not believe the difference in capacity. This year we have lots of green stems and the 95 is just eating them up. We run a Hiniker floating bar head setup along with a M&W automatic header height setup so cutting beans can be kind of fun.Ours are running about 60 bu so far which is a surprise with how dry our late summer was. I hope to post pics later. It is nice to see someone else running these old machines. Tom

Looks like things are a "Go" now,, great pics and story I agree,,, Love the Oliver,, I would bet those models are somewhat rare,, all I ever seen in that size here was the row-crop models thanks for sharing
cnt

The Oliver 1550 Utility is kind of rare with about 550 built and less than 200 being diesel. There are only 3 Cockshutt 1550 Utilities built so even more rare. These are very nimble and easy on and off and will run 20-22 MPH down the road and this one is 6' 2" outside to outside so she is narrow. The more I use it the more I love it and it's as handy as a pocket on a shirt! Bandit

I cant wait to see them pictures of the old girls at work. Mine are running in the upper 40's with places in the 60's and you sure know it when you hit those 60 bu beans, she lets out a mown to let you know. Mine has the spring assc under the feeder house and with the flouting cutter bar they work great together, Kinda of like a robot just set it down and go. I do like these old JD combines, Shoot I like all the old combines cause they got Style! Bandit

Yep ! This one was only $250 (no head) so I feel I can do a lot of work on her to keep her going and the big Plus is no computers! Bandit

Looks good Bandit! we are still about three weeks away from cutting any beans here in central Ga. Did you plant those beans with the narrow row planter like you did a couple of years ago? I saw where you were having trouble getting a belt from J.D. for your combine.I HIGHLY reccommend JayDee interprises for belts.I have been using them for about four years now and have no complaints. They save me a ton of money and some belts have outlasted Claas original two to one.

Haley this year has been one big screw up. Dad fell this spring and broke his ankle and is still on the mend and still in the wheel chair. I had 2 tractors go down to injector pump issues and had some planter problems (small issue) so I had a friend plant some for me. These soybeans were planted with a JD 750 no-till drill @ 200.000 population and they look good for the screwed up weather year and are yielding good. If you go to YouTube look me up under Bandit farmer and you can see a video of the old JD95 cutting these soybeans. See there you can teach an old dog new tricks!

As for the belts I figured JD would have it in stock because it fits so many different combines or they could get it. Well they didn't so I got one shipped to me cheaper than it would have been from JD. There are 3 or 4 Industrial belt suppliers in Cincinnati Oh that I can get belts from but this belt was a C series belt that is 73 inches long, I could find 72" belts every ware but the 73" belt had to be ordered. It's just one of those belts you never think about on the combine, It aint like it runs all the time like the machine. I think I need to sit down and wright all this kind of stuff down in a book so I can find it easer next time.

Anyway harvest is under way now and going strong here and I hope you have a smooth good harvest and good yields. Bandit
