Gleaner K settings

Got the K out and did a couple rows to test it out. Haven't run it in over 3 years. Leaves some kernels on the cob and some loose on the ground. For the cobs,
how much should I close the cylinder clearance.

I set my concave about a 1/2 inch. This year I was leaving a little on the cob so i tightened it up about 1/8 inch more and it worked great. Run my cylinder at 500 RPM, set my sieve and chaffer so i get a clean sample and little tailings, And as much wind as I can run. Hope this helps.

Remember, speed makes feed! Start with the cyl as slow as possible...should have the 15-16 inch dia driven pulley, not the little one for small grain. Maybe start with concave at 5/8, close the concave an eighth inch at a time til the cobs are clean. Filler bars help to roll the cobs through without breaking them into chips, which puts too much load on the chaffer. Set the chaffer at 3/4 inch, throw some kernels onto the sieve and open enough for them to fall through. Set the wind wide open. Kernels are pretty hard to blow out.

I do have the 15-16 pulley. This is used only for corn. Have another K that has the straight head for beans. Will crank up the wind a little more.

If kernals on the ground open the sieves just a little bit more. It better to split a few kernals and knock them all off of the cob instead of putting them back on the ground.
