anyone have info on grain loss on ground after combine I lose a lot at the head it seems like, not much commin through the machine if any. used to have a chart how many seed count vs bu per ac

AC used to have a small pocket book about that...but the Operator manual for each model Gleaner also has that info...how to calculate, even making a screen for a given width/length for each combine.

4 beans per square foot equals about 1 bu/acre loss. You can figure it out---sowing beans at 170,000 seeds per acre uses about a 55 lb bag. since there are 43,560 square feet in an acre, 4 seeds/ foot square would be just over 174,000 beans---close to an average seeding rate. BTW, that is a very low loss rate.

I know according to the JD sliding rule card they used to send with every combine, in malt barley it takes about 140 kernels per square foot directly behind the combine with the chopper/straw spreader off to equal 1/2 bu. That's with a 40ft header.
