Good bad and ugly on M2 Gleaner.

I'm going to go look at a M2 and a1440 IH, I'm familiar with a 1440 though. I just wondering how they compare because I've got a decent gleaner dealer close. Thanks. Ps I've got corn beans and oats and would like to run ab6 row

I have an M3--good machine easy to set and repair, so far parts availabilty is not an issue--lots of used parts around from early Ms and some L series parts also fit. It will handle a 6 row in corn; in a heavy crop you will be down to 2 or 3 mph. If you have hilly land and/or unload on the go, you will be much happier with the 426 engine vs the 301. Have had no issues with mine, keep the raddles properly set to avoid cobs going under and plugging it, hydro trans is good to have but harder on fuel;electric over hydraulic controls are handy, check and see if the bin floor is wore through where it transitions to the unloading auger; indicates that a lot of abrasive crops where harvested. I looked at IH's before I bought this one and got kinda scared when some owners told me of repair bills if they got a stone in it--the IH guys can fill you in. Good combines either way.

Just my 2 cents worth, that 1440 is a old machine too, and very expensieve to repair, I would much rather have the M3 myself, Have you changed your hydro oil lately and changed the antifreeze in the 301, there known for pin holes in the sleeves, when the antifreeze wear out.

The 1440 has a smaller diameter rotor, and less horsepower, A friend of mine years ago bought two new 1440, because the sales dept was pushing it, they both were a joke.

The M2 would be easier to work on and the M2 had a good reputation. The IH 1440 is harder to work on and would be the second choice for me.

Gleaners have always had the reputation of easier service and repair. Parts aren"t hiding behind fancy looking sheet metal, or having multiple (bendable) steel pulleys in front of the worn out bearing. And no one has the rock protection to match a Gleaner.

I.bought the M2! $3500 thanks ALOT!!

That's a nice looking machine for the money! I love my M2, but I'd pay $3500 all day long for a Corn Plus. I'd like one of those to leave the corn head on and use just for corn. I've got a spike tooth now.

I bought this at a dealer auction in northern Iowa about 10 years ago...$2800. Been a good machine. I"ve added mods, like the straddle duals, access ladder, auger catwalk, rear steps, etc. Works fine with a 6rn head, and re-wired it for a 315 flex head.
