Oil in hydrostat?

What kind of oil are you using in the hydrostat? (MF860 combine with Sauer-Sunrand group)
I am currently using HV46, but I was told something like Hy gard should be better. The hydro has already been rebuilt (all the bakelyte pistons torn in pieces), and at the time of the overhaul, I did not even question myself and kept putting same oil than previous owner told me to pour in like an idiot. Am I wrong?

What does the owners manual call for? I would think any low viscosity high quality oil would be fine. My New Holland skid loader uses plain 10W30 engine oil for the hydrostats. If you were to change to Hy-gard make sure you use the low viscosity version.

I am running Hy-tran in my MF hydros. The book calls for MF permatran I think. Previous owner of one of mine ran Dexron 3. Dad used to run Dexron in his but he was all COLD weather.
