have a 75 7700 and trying to figure out auto header height. combine has three wires. no plug left. and head has round 5 wire plug. anyone have any ideas?

i can post pics if id like

Your combine is setup for the older toggle style header control. The three wires are one hot and the other two go to the lift and drop solenoids. The round five pin plug is the type of plug used in the Dial-a-matic control box that would have came out around the mid 1980s.

The best way to go would be go to a salvage yard and get the Dial-a-matic control box and harness that you can install on the JD 7700 as it worked much better. The KIT is not available any longer from JD for that old of machine. You can buy the components but they are sky high buying them individually. You can use the harness form a JD 6620 0r JD 7720. The only difference is the circuit box mounts on the angle brace on the bottom of the cab on your JD 7700. Where it is mounted on the side of the grain bin on the 20 series combines. You just will have about six feet of extra wiring to tie/bundle up on the 20 series box/harness.

There is a harness that will adapt the dial-a-matic header half to the toggle combine half. I never made or used one as the dial-a-matic was 100% more reliable than the old toggle header control switches.

That's what i was afraid of. looks like for this year i will be using the old right arm header height.

Thanks for the input

Dan

If you are not ready to update your combine yet you can buy an adaptor harness to hook your later head to your earlier combine. I don't have the part number handy but if you look at a 20 series combine parts catalog it will list this adaptor harness. It may be hard to spot but it's in there. Mike

ok so here is the new problem i have found the only harness listed. it is to go from dial a matic combine to 3 wire head. no listing for going the other way. i dont want to cut the 9 wire male off of the head because i want to upgrade combine. any ideas on where i can get a female round 9 pin plug? also any ideas what 3 wires i need to use on the head side?

just a little update. took cover off box on head and ran jumper wire to my meter and made chart of wires wired the two wires on the low height sense side to the up solenoid and one wire on high height sense side to down solenoid. works good. thanks for help.
