Ronald, Vermeer has a dealership network issue that really hinders the whole line. The equipment is pretty good but their starting out with farmer dealers really hindered their dealership net work. In my area a Vermeer baler is worth about 30-40% less than the other brands just because of POOR dealers. How does this tie into you??? You need to find a dealer that has a more skilled repair person than were you where at. Cross members should be able to be straightened or repaired. I can believe it is not available for a baler that has not been made since 1990 but it should be repairable.

I called and asked some of my friends in your area. Non of them could recommend any Vermeer dealers in that area. Falmouth and Lucasville are small dealers that do not even handle much Vermeer stuff.

The baler is not complicated. It just needs to be straight and true. Look around for a mechanic that is a good fabricator. He might be a better match for what you need done.

I have a 505SI,,, if I am thinking right you are talking about the cross member the hitch bolts to and run across the baler? I can get my parts book out and post the breakdown,,, mine was broken by the PO who had a guy town it over 100 miles at 80 mph and bouncing all the way,,, I hired a welder to fix it, he would not listen to be about getting it back in "line" before welding,, his welds started breaking back out the first day baling, so I called my Vermeer dealer and ordered an new one, they said its not in stock now but they would send a order tot he factor to build one,, took a couple months at least to get so I parked it nice and level, left it hooked to the tractor and jacked it back into place and welded it myself, that was at least 5 years ago and still holding like new,,, I do have the new 1400 dollar part waiting in the shop if it ever does break though,, my Long story is to say that then Vermeer was glad to make the part it just took a while,, maybe things have changed with them now,, might be worth a call to a different dealer or contact Vermeer direct,, I have talked to them before and they were very helpful,,, not sure I helped anything but good luck, I Love mine

Good advice! I can not imagine any dealer repair shop putting that kind of money into repairs without checking the machine for other problems. It seems the baler was working when it went to the shop and any repairman would have been able to see the belts were not tracking right before doing any further repairs. I would want my money back or the machine fixed correctly. I hope that you did not pay them yet.

I would liken it to taking your pickup to a garage and having the engine replaced after which they tell you, OH!, by the way, your truck frame is rusted thru and the truck can't be fixed to use anymore.

Contact L.A. Yount in Pleasureville, KY. 502-845-2243. He is a great dealer, good service, and knows balers. Vermeer is the most popular baler in this area and he is the reason.

A good repair place would call the scrap yards like Worthington for the part needed.

Or take your sprung part to a welding shop to un spring it.

You don't have a good dealer. A good dealer doesn't take a $3000 check and send you home with an unusable machine. That is crap.

My dealer would not sell me a new roller when one of mine broke. He said he doesn't stock them, they were $400 back then, he gave me the name of a nearby welding shop that made them stronger than from Vermeer for $120. Well you can bet I go to that dealer when I can, he offers value to me.....

You need to find a repair person around you that accesses salvage yards, machine shops, and knows how to find deals to make the old stuff work for us small outfits on a budget.
