I need to replace some of the fingers on the auger on my 215 JD flex head. I have no idea of where to begin so I am looking for some help from those of you with much more experience with these heads than I have. All comments and help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Happy farming!

If you have a header wagon it makes it a bit easier as you can work from behind the head and not have interference with the reel hitting your head. Remove all the access doors and start at one side to replace the pins. I use an air ratchet and do one pin at a time to help stay aligned with the guide on the auger.Check the clearance between the end of the pin and the auger floor (5/8" I think)If needs adjusting there is an arm keyed to the shaft on the left end that changes the position of the shaft. Make sure the key is in good shape. If not the shaft will be out of position and ALL the fingers will get broken off in the first rotation of the auger and you get to start over.

I have done a couple Deere heads over the years. The old fingers are different from the new ones available. The old original fingers required that the shaft be loosened and slid so the fixed nylon opening of the finger could be slid on. The new ones open up on the backside making installation much easier. I have continued to use the steel fingers. There are composite (nylon) fingers that will do less damage to the floor of the head and inside the combine should one break. The installation is pretty straight forward. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. The fingers are in and with the help you all gave me it was quite easy. Thanks again. Happy farming.
