This is on a 1992 John Deere combine. Early in the morning the engine starts good and will run all day and night. If you ever shut it off it will not restart until the next morning. That is if you let it run 5 minutes or 5 hours. It always does the same thing.Any ideas as where to go from here? I might also add that if I don"t start up the machine while the outside temp is cool it won"t start. It has to be started early in the morning.

Start by checking every ground connection, at battery and at every electrical device. If that doesn't help, keep checking other things. Something is shutting down; just have to find where the problem is. Ground connections are more important than most people realize.

You may have a fuel problem. The fact that it starts OK when the engine is cold indicates that it may be a pump problem, either the main fuel pump or the injector pump. If the engine runs good after it starts but won't restart seems to indicate that the injector pump is getting weak.

Another possibility is the valves are not adjusted correctly. Valves that do not have enough clearance will cause the same symptoms. When the engine is cold the valves and push rods shrink and close but as soon as they warm a little they expand and do not fully close thus losing some compression. I would check the valve clearance before I ran the engine anymore as this condition can cause the valves to burn. Happy farming.

Does it crank but not fire up? Do you see any smoke out the exhaust when cranking? I agree with 2underage.Mark
