M2 pop-up bin extensions

When I bought my M2 last year, the bin extensions weren't hooked up to the clean grain auger in the bin and only came with one adjustable rod. I made a 2nd rod, and when I tried to connect the flaps to the auger, they wouldn't lay flat. Looked in the book and noticed my auger was up at an angle. The pic in the manual showed it laying horizontal, so I lowered the cradle to the next set of holes and now, everything looks right. When I raise the auger by hand, the flaps stand up straight. How well does this setup work? Also, I noticed I don't have the hood on the end of the auger. Book says to adjust it to get the bin to fill level. How critical is that part? Should I make one or get one at the junkyard?

It works well for getting into a lower building, yet allows the bin to hold more in the field. The floating auger end would be critical to get max capacity.

Thanks, JMS. By "floating auger end," do you mean the "hood" that goes over the end of the floating auger with 4 wing nuts on it? Loosening the wing nuts and adjusting that hood is supposed to direct the grain to one side or the other, so says the book. That's the part I'm missing. Probably important.

Didnt actually realize how that worked when I bought my M3, assumed it was just folded down like an F series would be, was eager to get in the beans so left it 'down' my first time out.

Boy was I surprised when a pile of beans got in the tank and the auger was floating up!

Oh, so that's how that works........

Never messed with it so can tell you much, other than I would think you need that bit of cover to help it float up and as they say, direct the fill?

It's worked fine for me.

Where are you located, several Gleaner junk yards around, like Mountain Lake MN, that would be a scrap piece laying around they would hardly know what to charge you for such a little thing? Probably easy to form out of so e tin laying around.

Thanks, Paul. That was what I was wanting to hear. I'm in extreme So. Ill., right at an hour away from Sikeston, MO, where there are 3 junkyards. They're all 3 a little short on Gleaner parts, but I'm going to check w/all 3 anyway. You're right, it wouldn't be a big deal to fab one up if I can't find one. Glad to hear it works as designed.

Thanks, 700. As it happens, I was in Harrisburg to get the main belt which flew apart Thur. morning, and the dealer happened to have an L2 sitting behind his building. I asked, and he was planning to salvage it. Got the leveling shield off of it for 10 bucks.
