975 New Holland.

Anyone here know the specs on a NH 975 combine.
There isn't too much info on the early New Holland combines around.
My dad had one in the early 1990's when I was 7 years old and the thing I remember the most was cleaning corn cobs out of the walkers.
Anyone still running one of these?

According to a Marshall's Farm Equipment Guide from 1982 the NH 975 was built from 1966-1974. The engine was a Ford 240 c.i. gas. 39 1/2 inch cylinder. Grain tank capacity was 80 BU. without extensions. Belt drive with optional hydrostat.

I've got a customer who still runs one. It's about done. I just try to stay ahead of the stress cracks. Not many hours I'd say but I think it was cheaply built.

I didn't know the 975 had the same cylinder width as the 985.
What was the difference between the 975 and 985?

985 had same width cylinder but diameter was 23 1/2 inches instead of 20 in the 975. Engines in the 985 were 302 V-8 gas or 380 diesel. Grain bin was 90 bu. (10 bu. larger}.

Dad had one from about 1970-1975. When asked about it, he'd say, "We'll, we couldn't afford a (John Deere) 105..." It was not his favorite machine.

That combine has to be in excellent shape to consider it. It was built overseas. I want to say Germany.

My brother had one. I ran it a lot. We sold it to a local guy. I still see it in the fields.

It wasn't as strong as you would like it to be.

I worked on it 2 years ago. If it is not kept under shed, it is going to be a monster to get going. they rust out fast.

I had a 975. Built in Belgium by Clayson. Basically a wider copy of a J D 55. Almost every bearing will interchange. Quiet, comfortable cab for the time. IIRC, the 985 had longer walkers and more cleaning area, the 995 was larger overall. The 240 Ford wasn't too bad on gas. They were better than the models that followed (1400-1500. I think they pushed the design too far, trying to bridge the gap until they could get the TR 70 out.
