CIH 1660 - reel hydraulic drive

Since I have only combined corn with this machine I thought I best try out the other heads I have around. I put the 810 pickup head on because it is smaller than the 820 and tried everything out. Don't seem to have any flow to the hydraulic motor that powers the reel. I took the motor off and we plugged it into a tractor...runs forward and backward. Following the lines back I come to a solenoid that has a questionable ground. I will repair the ground in the AM but want to make sure that I am doing everything right. I have the reel speed rocker switch set to "manual" and have confirmed I have the hydro lines in the correct ports. When I start testing with the meter, should the solenoid have power to it's harness when the feeder housing toggle is engaged? Is there anything else I should check if it still does not work after I repair the wiring?

The reel and seperater will stop on my JD 9500 if I so much as cross my legs. The seat contacts are sure touchy. I also know that solenoids are finicky about their grounds. It causes all kinds of weird things when they don't have a solid ground. I've also found that they take a much bigger or secure ground than lights. Seems odd - they aren't doing a lot of moving or anything but they sure like grounds.

After moving the reel speed rocker switch to manual, then did you try rotating the reel speed knob?
The reel will remain motionless if the knob is all the way slow until you rotate the knob clockwise to the faster positions.

2 thinks have you checked that the reel pump belt is on the pump is on the feeder house and second do you have the hoses hooked up correct don't ask how I know about the hose

I reworked the ground so you could get it to read on a meter no matter where you tested it. Didn't help.

Yes. Ultimately I found there is no power to the solenoid so you can play with the controls all day with no result.

Not a problem...sometimes the simplest answer is the best one. But I had them both engaged. Just no power to the solenoid. What I found was that I could bypass the solenoid manually. This worked in this case because it is a pickup head and the speed is not too important. Need to get that wire checked though before I try to run the bean head! Appreciate the help everyone!!!
