K Concave door

I got most of my repairs done on the Gleaner K before time to pick corn but one thing that is still left to do is fix the concave door, with it latched closed you can push it up another 1/4" or so and this causes corn to leak out, what should I do to tightened it up? I was thinking of putting a piece of rubber along the edge to take up the slack. Would this be an adjustment in the latch? It takes a good bit of effort to close the door, something I hate to do, don't want to end up with teeth knocked out!!

If I remember correctly- I used to put shims, washers, whatever was necessary between the latch plate (on the door) and where it's bolted on. Two 3/8" bolts I think? Manual should show how much you want the latch to "over center" so it works correctly.

re closing the door....never lay under the combine with the closing tool lined up with the center of your body! When it snaps over center you don"t want it between your legs, unless you want to change choirs. Unless you"re a slow learner, you only need that lesson once. Keep the tool alongside your body.

Some doors have sealing strips attached to them. There should be shims to adjust the door as well. Make sure the door is straight- might need to set it in a press and push it straight...ends like to sag with age. (rocks!)

just remember when shimming, the latch should still be able to pop open if you ingest a foreign object.
