Difference between a rotor and regular

In a cylinder combine the grain comes up the feeder house then goes under the spinning cylinder. Under the cylinder is an adjustable grate that the grain rubs on to get it off the straw or cob. So the grain has about a 24 inch distance to get all the grain off the straw or cob.

On a rotor machine the grain comes up the feeder house and enters a screw type rotor that spins sideways. This screw type rotor spins the straw or cobs about 2 revolutions of the rotor before the thrash goes out the back and the grain falls through the grates.

So a rotor machine has about three times the chance to remove the grain from the straw or cob that what a cylinder machine can.

With so much area to thresh the grain the grates or concaves can be set wider from the rotor than the concave on a cylinder machine. This results in less damage kernals of grain to give a better grain sample.
