I posted about this problem a couple weeks ago. On my JD 6620 the fingers are broken off that help move the grain from the concave augers to the chaffer. The metal plate under the wires is pretty well busted up as well. Spent the morning yesterday at a combine salvage yard which probably had 35 plus similar John Deere combines and most if not all had the same problem - busted up fingers. On some of the combines nearly all of the wires were broken off. If all of these combines had broken up fingers it makes me wonder if they are absolutely necessary???
Secondly, some of these combines did not have the steel plate. They just had the little fingers. Was the steel plate an add on for corn and soybeans so the crop was dropped a little farther back so the grain wouldn't go forward into the fan area????
Lastly, could I make a plate from mild steel and weld some 3/32" or 1/4" rods to it as a replacement???
Thank you.
