Cutting oats

How fun. I can't say as I would enjoy that chaff on me, but I have a lot nostalgia for the old open station combines. Some day I will buy a Massey Super 92 like we had when I grew up to cut a field with. The JD 9500 is nice but you don't really have a connection with the process. Heck, you can't even cross your legs in that seat or the seperater kicks off. There's a real art to the old machines - setting everything just right so it gets a beautiful sample. The adjustments are all a button on the new machine. Where's the joy or competition in that? Grandpa used to fiddle until he had the cleanest grain in the county. We never had our seed wheat cleaned. Never once in my memory. It showed his skill and knowledge and reflected on him. If I have junk in the truck I just say the combine did it. I sure didn't.
