Belle city Thresher update

Got the clean grain sieve out, by raising the chaffer extension. Only one of three hangers were left. Last sieve adjuster broke. Appears sieve had dropped down, from each front height adjuster and wasn't even cleaning and explains problem of heads in clean grain. Also discovered scour kleen screen only had wood frame left and previous repair was a board across bottom. All sieve slates good and even canvass air deflector good, wood frame good.
Fabricated 2 hangers- Drilled and used bolts and peened over heads (Old ones were rivets). Redrilled and bigger bolt on adjuster. Drilled hole in back sieve and made it permanent 7/16" spacing. Took 2 men to pull out and put back in with
one in straw blower area. Getting into front adjuster slots, was thru a 3" inspection holes each side. Took out scour clean frame. Put rod thru good 3rd hole height adjuster and will compensate by sieve opens and air adjustment.
My previous repair was on straw walker grease tubes to wood bearing (rug inside on walker and me inside on rug). At 78 I let other guy inside this time.
Hopefully this machine should outlast me, especially since it inside a good building, however mice still get in the machine. It might not have to do Oats in September as winds have "Lodged" straw flat and binder is only ground driven header reel.

Sounds good, i need to repair our clubs' wooden Aultman Taylor machine before
we use it again, the straw walkers are coming apart. I started patching them up last year, but the nails
are just not going to stay in the old holes and much of the wood is splitting.
Time is against me working regualar hours, but it needs the straw walkers replaced new.
The rest of the machine is pretty worn, but its a great piece and sure needs to be kept and kept up.

Charlton Park museum has an old aultan- Taylor that is intact (wood wheels), that cold be viewed. It is TOTALLY inoperatable and I wouldn't even attempt to make it so.
I do have the wood frame (good shape) (flat) of the weed screen)in my shed. Its about 4' X 4', but would need all the top wood, hinges, sieves etc..
Good luck on making new wood one.

Sorry on post. I didn't notice you were talking about "straw walker" and I was thinking clean grain.

BTW I had to replace a straw walker on a JD 45 years ago. What a job. Good Luck. Hope somebody has an old straw walker, to fit your machine.

No problem, i understood. It does need more work than the walkers, but it would run with them repaired.
It keeps spitting out the small cross pieces coming un-nailed, i can tap the nails back in but they won't stay.
I had wondered how a McCormick set compared, being mostly steel constructed.

Belle city threshers were sold by International (Mckormick) near the end 40s-50s. The straw walker on ours 409500 S/N,
have composite steel and wood. The "alligator backs" are steel and the some are wood with nails. I/m sure they are longer (and maybe wider) then A-T, but can measure for you.
Have you tried deck screws, instead of nails, and sheet metal reinforcing ?

Thanks, did some screws but didn't do enough. Also thought about putting a steel grid over them front to rear similar to the IH.
