Keeping combine clean?

Yep I remember reading that years ago that you attach a short piece of metal chain some where and let it drag the ground. This discharges any static electricity that was caused by the header rubbing the ground or the crop stalks rubbing the header. We never had a cab on our old Gleaner so we never had to worry about that problem. Wished many a time we did have a cab though...

We had a chain dragging on our Massey Super 92. We didn't know about it at the time, but that really helps the dust on the windshield. Ours was because of lightening. Out there on the Kansas prairie you are the tallest piece of hot metal. Grandpa was convinced that chain would act like a lightening rod and save the combine. No dust on the windshield, though.

I have a squeegee in the cab that I clean the windows with. Just squeegee them dry and it takes the dust off.

I use a long "California Duster" on my windows. These are used on show cars to keep them clean. I believe Wal-mart has (or had) them. There are different sizes and I have the larger one. It works very well. I still have to wash the windows periodically (like after a heavy dew if the combine sits out overnight) but most of the time the duster works fine. Mike
